This 19th century Baroque building has a prime location on İstiklal Caddesi and a transformative history. Originally the home of a rich Greek businessman, the Şişmanoğlu Megaro was donated to the Greek state and at one time housed a CIA English-language library and a carpenter's shop. Today it has been restored and functions as a Greek cultural center run by the Greek Consulate of Istanbul with free Greek lessons, exhibitions, talks, film screenings, and consulate offices.
