From its beginning in 1995 as a retailer and later publisher of history and archaeology titles, Homer Kitabevi has expanded to a major importer of American and British books. While Turkish history and non-fiction remains Homer’s forte, philosophy, fiction, photography, and children’s books are also strongly represented in its selection.
Its eight locations on university campuses also render Homer a significant supporting institution for Turkish academia. Relatedly, this erudite bookseller is the publisher of New Perspective on Turkey, an academic journal containing pioneering scholarship on the country. A boon to the thrifty shopper, Homer Bookstore sells imported books at the cover price, sidestepping the tax mark-ups that often plague foreign price tags. The recent launch of Homer kids, a section dedicated to young children, reinforces Homer’s reputation as a bookseller with a concern for social issues and education.
