Tophane’s newest woodworking shop, Hane 78, joins the veritable tradition of Istanbul furniture making in the area with a modern boldness and a history of its own. Ayhan Ada, one of the proprietors, brings 25 years of woodworking experience passed down by his father, and Seyda Doğan, his partner, brings the shop’s modern creative whimsy. As with any handcrafted furniture boutique worth its weight in wood, everything from the couches to the bookshelves are available for custom orders into previously uncreated shapes.
