Dear Karaköy,
We are mesmerized by the way you keep changing and morphing, becoming younger every single day, with something brand new appearing among the historical façade that is the essence of your identity. We hope you never change too much, because we like how you bring the two most distinct parts of this city together among your meandering streets; the past and a rapidly approaching future.
We will visit you often to make sure we don’t miss out on anything, but for now the two newest additions are…
Lastik Pabuç
Purveyor of everything having to do with trendy sneakers, Galata’s Lastik Pabuç (literally translating to ‘sneaker’) has opened shop in the up and coming Karaköy neighborhood. Almost hidden away in a side street, the small floor to ceiling graffiti covered store displays a small selection of trainers such as the classic Vans and graphic T-shirts. The full selection of goods can be browsed through and ordered online. Kemankeş Mahallesi Mumhane Caddesi Murakıp Sokak NO: 18A Karaköy; P: (0212) 249 1631; http://www.lastikpabuc.com/
Uttu
Uttu is the sweet creation of designer Gokce Cibik who was inspired by the dresses she made for her dolls at a young age. As such, the 1950s style high waisted pants, babydoll collars, and polka dot tops are only appropriate. With an office and show room located on the very top floor of a tiny mall in the Karaköy neighborhood’s Fransiz Pasajı, the main base of sale is online on the official Uttu website where all products are available featuring national and international shipping. The name Uttu denotes the Sumerian goddess of weaving and all of Cibik’s creations are designed and sown in Istanbul and are meant to be original yet affordable. Rıhtım Cad. Fransız Geçidi B Blok No: 57, Karaköy; http://uttu.com.tr/en/shop
