Yer: Moda's Best Cafe

Feride Yalav / September 06, 2012

If there is one word that defines the Asian side of Istanbul, it would be ‘quiet.’ More residential when compared to its European counterpart, where sleep is ever so elusive, the Asian side shelters those who seek a more balanced, maybe family-oriented, existence. Moda is a neighborhood where quiet tree-lined streets slope downward toward the seaside, where, on weekends, families and couples can be seen strolling and taking in the view.

A younger generation of inhabitants are also present, who have opened their own places of business in this quiet neighborhood maintaining a younger feel among the wave of communal accord. One of these is a small café named Yer, meaning ‘place,’ which is rather befitting because of the simple, and consequently relaxed overall feel. Framed drawings from local artists hang on the wall inside, while salmon pink chairs offer an invitation to sit. Outside, young people sit and converse while watching small crowds walk past.

Included on the menu is a hearty breakfast with various cheeses, olives, marmalades and spreads, and eggs. For lunch, pasta with salmon, köfte (Turkish meatballs), or wheat salad are included in the range of options available, as well as all types of coffee from espresso to latte.  If you are in the mood for a drink, then cocktails made fresh with ginger or apple are at your disposal. Whatever your purpose, Yer is the perfect little café in Moda to sit, eat, chat, and relax. Caferağa Mahallesi Ferit Tek Sokak No.25/A, Moda; P: (0216) 450 16 70
