When we think of Italy several images may make an appearance at the visual show of our memory. Some might think of Eros Ramazotti serenading long legged blondes, others might think of thick black hair riding the Vespa-induced wind in the uphill and narrow streets of Capri. Some of us, with an older soul, think of the black and white flash of old Italian celebrities; a cigarette dangling precariously from their lips.
However, what we all undeniably think of is the food. We’re definitely not talking about overcooked pasta slathered in thick cream sauce that leaves the stomach and heart heavy with disappointment. Instead, our tongues tip toward a Mediterranean inspired Italian cuisine that is both light in intention and presentation, with just the right touch of olive oil and herbs.
Newly opened and humming with the voices of the working crowd, Carluccio’s, located just inside the Kanyon shopping center, is the latest edition to the array of that building’s lunch time spots. With an interior bathed in the noon time sun via open windows and a terrace overlooking the center, Carluccio’s is both a restaurant and market.
Near the entrance you’ll find a small food store-like section, where you can track down olive oils, pastries, and even legs of ham and prosciutto. It’s a quaint and friendly introduction, and the staff are quite happy to entertain any question. The remainder of the restaurant stretches out in a long, slender floor plan capped by the kitchen at the back.
The menu offers a nice selection of Italian dishes ranging from pastas, pizzas, and more. While their salads are a bit lacking, we recommend their pizza, where toppings are laid on a wonderfully light and airy crust, and the pastas do not disappoint.
Due to its location, the restaurant caters quite largely to those working in nearby offices as a lunch getaway. As a result, it’s not somewhere to go to sit for a lengthy, relaxing meal and does well enough as a decent bite to eat while cruising the Kanyon shops or escaping the office.
