Babylon’s New Season

Eric Beyer / August 23, 2012

While the temperature may be starting to fall, the music scene is once again heating up as autumn comes ever closer. Babylon, one of Istanbul’s most popular and established venues, gears up for the season with a line-up of great artists hailing from a wide range of musical genres. It all starts on September 25 with an in-house Jukebox party.

September 26, 27, & 28Kings of Convenience: Returning to Istanbul after their spring show was cancelled due to medical reasons, Norwegian acoustic guitar-duo Erlend Øye and Eirik Bøe bring their talented, delicate, and finger-picked sound to Babylon in what may be one of the most anticipated concerts of the year. The group has played an integral part in the folk revival scene alongside artists like Jose Gonzales and Belle & Sebastian, and they have achieved wide critical acclaim (as well as a devoted following).

September 29 – Shigeto: Japanese electronica producer Zach Saginaw (whose moniker is also his middle name) brings his off-kilter, deeply melodic, and richly-textured sound to Istanbul. His style reaches into multiple genres including instrumental hip-hop, ambient, dubstep, ambient, and jazz. He tours ahead of his upcoming release, Lineage, an album that sees him continually exploring woven, sonic tapestries.

October 26 – Nina Kraviz: Serbian born DJ, singer, and electronica producer Nina Kraviz has earned attention for putting on Friday nights at Moscow’s Propaganda club and from her soft, understated beats. Her style integrates deep house, techno, and acid genres that build compositions capable of driving any club.
