EAT*BOX: Your Favorite Diner Right Around the Corner

Pelin Kılıç / August 02, 2012

Simple, well-executed, delicious.

These three words pretty much sum up EAT*BOX, a new neighborhood café waiting to be discovered in the back streets of Beşiktaş  in one of the few remaining “real neighborhoods,” Abbasağa.  Located at the bottom of a nostalgic building, the cafe’s unique location is the inspiration behind chef Eren Bursalıgil’s decision to open shop here in order to fulfill his personal dream of introducing a new taste to those who are tired of monotony.

EAT*BOX is a casual spot for dining, hanging out, taking  your laptop to work, or reading a book, and not just once, but regularly, if you are living nearby. Neither a plain burger shop nor a fast-food stop, deliciously combined tastes from world cuisines that come in a chill atmosphere along with excellent music. Even though the name EAT*BOX conjures images of a small eatery, the place is in fact comfortably spacious with a well-lit environment and simple décor, as well as outdoor seating and floor to ceiling windows. An open kitchen is a treat for those who enjoy watching someone cook, especially when there’s a real chef behind the counter.

That chef is Eren Bursalıgil, who has a background that led him from a gastronomy focused education in Austria to work in London, and back to Istanbul to work for Sekizistanbul, Minyon, and Corvus. When he decided to open up his own place, he wanted to create the meeting point of good food, a chill atmosphere, and reasonable prices, or simply put, a place he would want to go to himself.

As for the food, the menu is dynamic and reflects the chef’s interest in the cuisines of different countries. American inspired dishes such as Steak&Cheese with 100g of shredded sirloin steak, melted cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, and mustard seed makes an appearance. Another American favorite, the cheeseburger comes with a 100% beef patty, cheddar cheese, and caramelized onions. Far East delicacies like Muska as well as the local hand-made Mantı also come side by side with healthier options like the low-fat yet highly delectable “Yalancı” (Liar) pizza or salad.

So if you are in the neighborhood, head to EAT*BOX for that kind of local and informal warmth that only a neighborhood cafe can capture. Jandarma mektebi Sok. No:1, Beşiktaş; P: 0212 327 01 23
