Suma Beach is the joint venture of the people behind Wake Up Call (one of Istanbul's best clubs, now sadly closed), and Sumahan, an ultra-cool design space that includes residences, artist studios, exhibitions, events, and performance/dance studios. Together they have created a little slice of paradise on the black sea coast. Located on a yellow sandy beach backed by rolling green hills, Suma Beach offers a convenient escape from Istanbul. With 23,000 square meters of living space, during the day you can join in a yoga/Pilates class or other workshops, or just relax on the beach and swim in the refreshing water.
As the sun sets, the place takes on a different vibe, set back from the beach and entered via a wooden walkway is what just might be Istanbul’s coolest outdoor ‘club’. The trees are uplit in a multitude of colors, with reflective décor hanging from the branches. Strung between them are hammocks to relax in. DJs spin the latest tunes and a bar serves well-made cocktails as well as other drinks. The party goes on until daybreak.
For the latest events, check their Facebook page. Please note, whilst there is a camping area available, reservations need to be made in advance.
If not travelling with your own vehicle, the beach is best reached by shuttle, departing from various locations in Istanbul. Please check Suma Beach's website for detailed locations and schedule.
