Meşhur Bebek Badem Ezmesi
Meşhur Bebek Badem Ezmesi is a family-run business that has been selling the purest and best form of sweets. It first opened its doors to the public in 1904 in the quaint and picturesque neighborhood of Bebek, and remains there to this day. Appropriately named, the shop is famous for its badem ezmesi (variant of marzipan). The name of the shop means “the famous Bebek almond paste,” and it is, in fact, famous. People from all parts of the city, and beyond, come here just to buy their badem ezmesi, regardless of its whopping price. Most argue that it's worth every penny!
Even though the shop is best known for its badem ezmesi, other items are excellent as well. The selection of sweets includes akide şekeri (a kind of Turkish hard candy), fıstık ezmesi (pistachio marzipan), lokum (Turkish delight), and dragées of various fillings (such as pistachio, almond, and orange).
Scholars believe that it was the Persians who created the idea of Marzipan. However, there is a smaller group who believe it may have originated in Turkey, specifically introduced to Europe through Edirne. After trying some of Bebek's badem exmesi you will believe them too.
