As central as it can be, located inside Akmerkez, Martinez Istanbul is far from your everyday shopping mall eatery. The sleek restaurant is another venture by UKA Life group, the same name behind Hudson in Arnavutköy. Although there are some resemblances in its interior and on the menu, Martinez has its own identity and premise. The interior and lighting were specially chosen for the space to set a feel-good ambiance for guests.
The restaurant’s menu is prepared with your favorite dishes from Hudson with additions from Mediterranean and Far Eastern cuisine. Starting off your meal with grilled asparagus, served with smoked yogurt with truffle, would be a trailer of the main feature that awaits. Ditch all greens and go for the olive salad with hummus before the main course. Served with jerusalem artichoke puré, the beef cheek confit stand out among the main dishes for red meat lovers, offering mild tastes of anise and cilantro. Octopus carpaccio and truffle papardella are two dishes that stand out amongst the chef’s picks, which highlight the restaurant’s unique recipes as well as reinvented versions of classical tastes.
As an alternative to all these, you can order plates of sushi rolls along with a bottle of white and call it a night. Kick off a sushi night with the shrimp tempura rolls and move on to the caterpillar rolls. Both of these make a statement with their taste as well as their presentation on the plates. Another must-try are the tornado rolls, taking you over with a wild wind of tastes with crispy outsides and the fresh insides.
Whether you complete the menu or just go for the sushi, do not leave without trying the crunchy, layered baklava with berries hiding in between with an accompaniment of marachiro cherry mousse. The dessert is like a mingling of the baklava we know well with raspberry cheesecake. The short dessert menu is more than enough to end the night on a sweet note.
We can talk more about the menu, but the bar deserves some time in the spotlight as well. Martinez is determined to be the pre-funk destination for weekend nights with the bar turning out craft cocktails. Reserve a table at the restaurant for dinner and stay longer after midnight before going to hit the town. If you are looking for a strong yet fruity cocktail, the Smoky Martinez will satisfy you for the night. The cocktail is prepared with apple wood dust-smoked gin and has hints of citrus.
