8 Fingers Coffee & Street Food Bar
One of the joys of wandering through Beyoğlu is the wealth of little shops and cafes tucked into unexpected corners. Located just opposite an Ottoman fountain on Kazancı Yokuşu, the bite-sized 8 Fingers Coffee & Street Food Bar is one of these discoveries. As the name suggests, this venue is designed as a quick stop on the road. But that does not make it any less nutritious or delightful.
Although the interior of 8 Fingers can only seat a few people, with a couple more tables outside, its natural wood furnishings make it feel cozy rather than cramped. The cooking area is in full view of the seats, so you know exactly what’s going on in the kitchen.
Third-wave coffee methods are one draw at 8 Fingers, with a range of Aeropress, V60, and Chemex coffees at the brew bar. The usual espresso, latte, and cappuccino are also available, along with soya milk or almond milk for vegans or the lactose-intolerant. The coffee comes from Istanbul’s own Petra Roasting Co.
However, the real star of the show is the café’s nourishing Buddha Bowl. More than a salad, this beautifully presented bowl is a well-balanced meal, following the health trend for vegetables and protein only, with no carbohydrate. The salmon option, with fish smoked by the café itself, is paired with cherry tomatoes, baby sweet corn, avocado, crisp lettuce leaves, lentils, and a sprinkling of chia seeds. These South American seeds are a good source of B vitamins and minerals. The prawn and asparagus bowl is also a mouth-watering combination, and there are entirely vegetarian bowls that will cover your green needs for the day.
