German composer-pianist Hauschka, Icelandic producer Johann Johannsson, and American composer Dustin O’Halloran are all part of the so-called ‘post classical’ genre, blending classical composition and instrumentation with new forms and musical ideas that often creates entirely modern pieces.
O’Halloran is known for his musical contributions to films such as ‘An America Affair’ and ‘Marie Antoinette,’ and is also a member of the chamber orchestra group A Winged Victory For The Sullen. Volker Bertelmann, otherwise known as Hauschka, contributes to the advancement of classical music in the modern scene, specializing in ‘prepared piano,’ where foreign objects are put onto the strings of the instrument to produce wildly varied and unique sounds. Finally, Johann Johannsson, melds electronic and orchestral sounds in his compositions that are often described as melancholic and haunting. Be sure not to miss this performance of unique artistry and talent at Salon IKSV November 20.
