Luis Ernesto Gomez, a Parisian of Colombian/Cuban heritage, is a conga player who has been performing for 28 years and has worked with many famous Latin musicians such as Anturo Sandoval, Danny Brillant and Yuri Buenaventura. Gomez’s wife, the Turkish-French singer Gülseren Yıldırım Gomez (popularly known as Gülseren) studied music at the Conservatoire de Paris, and can sing in many languages. She also represented Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005, where she was listened to by an audience of 400 million. Together, the two founded the group Salsa Turca, the first of its kind in Paris. The name of their band, La Descarga, means “Jam Session” in Spanish; their repertoire consists of their compositions and their interpretations of world music form Paris to Bogota.
