Come to Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall tonight to hear the entrancing, hypnotizing notes of Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek. An active performer since the 1960s, Garbarek is known both for his collaborations with jazz legend Keith Jarrett, and for his critically acclaimed solo work which has earned him many honors including a Grammy nomination (for 2005’s In Praise of Dreams). Garbarek – regarded a seminal figure in the ambient jazz movement – has an unlimited capacity for experimentation, with forays into the folk music of his native Scandinavia, world music, Gregorian chant, and more; he is also the composer of the score for Amos Gitai’s 2000 film Kippur.
Garbarek’s quartet, which has performed together for years, features Rainer Brüninghaus on piano, Yuri Daniel on bass, and Trilok Gurtu on percussion.
