Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey will be in Istanbul for five special Richard III performances under Sam Mendes’s skillful direction.
Through the Bridge Project – produced by London’s long-established theater company the Old Vic, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Neal Street – Richard III had its world premier in London on the 29th of June. The acting (especially Spacey’s portrayal of the title character) and direction have received highly positive coverage in the British press.
Accompanied by important actors Maureen Anderman, Haydyn Gwyne, Chuck Iwuji, Gemma Jones and Chandler Williams, Richard III is the first collaborative effort by Spacey and Sam Mendes after American Beauty, filmed 12 years ago. The movie won five Academy Awards including Best Director and Best Actor, and did very well in the international box office.
This time the two have devoted their efforts to a Shakespearean history play. Mendes comments: “I am absolutely delighted to be working with Kevin again for the first time since American Beauty, and I am doubly thrilled that he is leading year three of The Bridge Project. ‘Richard III’ is a play I love, and a role I think Kevin is born to play. I’m also thrilled that the partnership between our three entities has strengthened and blossomed over the course of this venture, along with a host of invaluable international partnerships that have enabled us to extend the reach of global touring year after year.”
With the collaboration of the Istanbul Theater Festival through IKSV, and the Istanbul Municipal Theaters, this amazing production will be sponsored by Vodafone RED. Tickets – sold at Biletix and IKSV sale centers – will be available in August.
If you’re as excited as we are about seeing Spacey on stage in Istanbul, then be sure to buy your ticket early for this unforgettable event.
