UK artist and filmmaker Isaac Julien’s The Leopard is the single-screen version of his 2007 five-screen installation Western Union: Small Boats. Inspired by Visconti’s 1963 film version of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s novel of Italian unification, Julien’s film focuses on the tragic plight of immigrants fleeing North Africa for the opposite shores of the Mediterranean.
