The black-and-white prints titled Geri Tepme (Recoil), by the Turkish artist known as Halil, offer a consistently decentered point of view, focusing on human forms glimpsed through a door window, a pair of knees kneeling on a rug, the gaze of a dog whose leash-wielding owner remains faceless. These masterful images – taken both in Turkey and Sweden (where the artist currently resides) – invite us to reconsider the act of observing, and the possibility of ever arriving at a definitive point of view.
