The title of Berna Erkün’s exhibit translates to “We Flew Close But Were Far Away; We Were Far Away But Passed Close,” a reference to the flocks of flamingos and other birds who breed at Turkey’s Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake) south of Ankara. Erkün’s pastel-colored acrylic canvases of turquoise, white, and orange-pink, are a wonderful, impressionistic paean to the strangeness and beauty of the natural world.
