Puerto Rican artist Angel Otero’s striking and arresting paintings are the result of an original process known as “oil paint scraping,” by which the Otero paints onto a glass tablet and transfers the dried paint onto the canvas where it will finally be displayed. Otero’s restless compositions are host to a panorama of different emotions; in the words of the artist, “With every painting I create – or to be more precise, with the colors and figures I employ – I attempt to express feelings of abandonment, imbalance, ambition, courage, and sagacity.”
